According to Wikipedia, they only made six SOCOM games before MAG. So they have plenty of experience with third-person shooters, which is basically the same thing. Ooo before anyone says anything to combat this (TPS plays different than FPS QQ RAGE) literally the only difference is the camera position. |

Just wait until marauders get siege modules and we can drop down turrets. Currently everyone swarms around objectives as if this was a normal FPS. "Normal FPS" "True FPS" "Real FPS" are three of the stupidest descriptions one could choose to use when describing a game to someone. Define "Normal/True/Real". As far as I can tell, if it's in first person, then it would be all three of those things. Maybe you should use words like "Arcade FPS" or "Strategic FPS" that actually have descriptive purpose.
I do see that you did actually use "strategic shooter", but then you went on to use "normal FPS" which has no real meaning. If one plays mostly BF3, then their view of "normal FPS" would be a cross bread of strategic play and arcade play. A CoD player would consider normal to be arcade style. All the while a MAG player would peg normal as down right strategic warfare.
Don't mean to be an ass, I just can stand people pegging Dust as different than other FPS games in the sense of it's normalcy or trueness. I mean, I started a whole damn thread about it.
And on to a more purposeful response - the map doesn't need to be active "everywhere" at all times, but it shouldn't be nearly as dead as it is. In the current state of the Skirmish mode, there are 5 objectives, and there is only ever any large activity at 2 of them. There should be enough players to fill the space so at least 4 of the objectives are active, otherwise those become very dull areas to be. I understand that in real warfare, maybe no all areas are always active, and as much of a "war-sim" as this is going to be, it is still a video game.

MAG. Thinking about it again, i'm sure MAG maps are larger and they have many more structures on them. The maximum player count was 256 on the largest maps. MAG maps were massive. And the framerate was stellar! Never had any major drops, unless you were in a very tight room with 30 people all tossing gas grenades at each other... Good times, good times. |
